Suwannee softball

Suwannee couldn't hang on to the lead against Baker County in Thursday's district championship game. 

The Baker County softball team rallied from a three-run deficit to defeat Suwannee 6-5 in Thursday’s district championship. 

The Wildcats broke out for four runs in the fifth inning and then walked off with the win in the eighth inning.  

Carson Frier went 3-4 with a double and two RBIs for the Bulldogs. MacKenzie Taylor and No. 8 hitter Karson Kirby had three hits apiece. Kirby hit two doubles. She also scored a run in the seventh inning on a single from Frier to tie the game at 5 and force extra innings.

Taylor pitched the entire game for Suwannee and gave up eight hits and three earned runs.

Suwannee (10-12) will go on the road Wednesday to face West Nassau in a regional quarterfinal.    


Despite recording 10 hits, including four doubles and a home run, the Suwannee High baseball team lost 10-9 to Episcopal School of Jacksonville on Thursday.

Ronnie Layton went 2-3 with a home run, Bo Bonds went 2-3 with a double and Marquis Jones had a 2-4 night with three RBIs, but the Bulldogs gave up two runs in the sixth inning and two more runs in the seventh as the Eagles walked off for the win.

The Bulldogs were coming off a big win. They defeated Chiles 6-3 on April 30. That victory gave Suwannee a perfect 6-0 record against Tallahassee schools this season.

Suwannee (17-8) hosts Bradford today at 6 p.m. for Senior Night.  


The Lafayette High baseball team defeated Fort White 2-1 on Thursday.

Dylan Mock went 2-3 with a double and also pitched five scoreless innings to guide the Hornets to their fourth straight win. Mock struck out nine and allowed three hits. 

Austin Severance, Dawson Mock and Joseph Perry had one hit apiece. Severance and Dylan Mock scored one run for the Hornets, who improved to 15-6.  

Jaxson Beach had a double and an RBI. 

On April 30, Lafayette beat the Bell Bulldogs 15-1 in five innings at Bell. The Hornets were led at the plate by Beach (1-2, four runs scored), Dylan Mock (1-2, RBI, one run), Jarrett Pearson (2-3, RBI), Adam Perry (2-4, two RBIs), Landen Brock (1-2, two RBIs, two runs) and Dawson Mock (1-3, two RBIs, one run) in that game. Pearson pitched four innings, striking out five while allowing two hits.  

Lafayette defeated Dixie County 10-2 on April 29. Pearson, Dawson Mock and Darius Jones had two hits apiece against the Bears. Pearson and Jones both drove in one run while Dawson Mock notched a triple, three RBIs and three runs scored. Beach went 1-2 with two runs scored. 

Dylan Mock finished 1-3 with two runs scored and also pitched 4 1-3 innings, allowing one run on five hits with seven strikeouts.

Lafayette will host Hamilton County on Tuesday in a district semifinal with the winner facing Madison County for the District 5-Class 1A title.


Hamilton County lost 12-1 to Columbia on Thursday in five innings. Devin Cherry had three hits and a stolen base in the loss. Brent Howard went 1-3 and Logan Hughes had the Trojans’ only RBI. 

HCHS plays at Williston tonight in a final tuneup before Tuesday’s district semifinal at Lafayette.
