The Suwannee High boys tennis team won the Class 2A-District 2 Championship Tuesday in Tallahassee.
No. 1 singles player Seth Land won a district title and earned a spot in the state tournament. Land teamed up with Josh Braun in doubles to win a district title. With the win in No. 1 doubles, Land and Braun qualified for the state tournament.
Suwannee’s Brent Long was a No. 3 singles champion. Long and Loren Anderson took first in No. 2 doubles.
For the Suwannee girls, Lily Lamb won a district title in No. 5 singles.
Suwannee will host a regional meet on Tuesday.
Bulldogs, Trojans compete in district track meet
Suwannee and Hamilton County traveled to Florida High in Tallahassee on Saturday for district meets. The Trojans were taking part in the Class 1A-District 3 meet while the Bulldogs were in the Class 2A-District 2 meet.
Suwannee had two district champions in pole vault. Hunter Merola won the boys pole vault and Brianna Mays won the girls pole vault. Merola also took third in the discus.
AJ Speights came in second place in the 800-meter run for the Bulldogs. Speights, Hunter Land, Ricardo Cruz and Jaquary Pratt came in second in the 4x800 relay.
In the girls high jump, Suwannee’s Dariniya Martin came in second and Mon’tayasia Jones placed third.
Emelia Rodriguez was second in pole vault. Adrianna Walker finished second in triple jump and Martin placed fourth. Suwannee’s 4x800 team of Tyra Kalandyk, Passion Leggett, Nellie Lamb and Luna Rodriguez finished fourth.
For the Hamilton County boys, Jeremiah Gibson took first in the 200-meter run and second in the 100-meter. He will move on to a regional meet on April 27 at Bishop Snyder High in Jacksonville.
Suwannee's top 4-finishers in each event will also move on to the April 27 regional at Bishop Snyder.
