LIVE OAK — Youth football players will have a chance to learn from the Bulldogs next month.
The inaugural ‘Day with the Dogs’ football camp is scheduled for Aug. 9 from 9 a.m. to noon at Suwannee High School’s football practice fields. The camp, which costs $10 and includes lunch, is for students in first through sixth grades that are interested in football or cheerleading. Registration will be held from 8-9 a.m.
Suwannee High football coach Kyler Hall said the camp has been something he’s been wanting to do since he returned to his alma mater as coach four years ago as a community outreach and way to build excitement.
“Just wanting to get the youth more involved,” Hall said. “We want to get kids excited about playing football. Just teaching the fundamentals, getting them around our guys and giving them something to look forward to as they work up through the ranks of rec department and middle school.
“I’m looking forward to it. It’ll be a fun day.”
In addition to the camp in the morning where the SHS players will help teach the fundamentals and lead drills, those attending the camp are also invited to a media day event from 6-7:30 p.m. and meet with the players, coaches and cheerleaders. There will also be snow cones and games available to be played.
The football team will scrimmage at 7:45 p.m. for those attending to watch.
Pre-registration is available now with Heather Crotty at SHS.
