The Suwannee Bulldogs played Hamilton County on Jan. 6 and defeated the Trojans by a final score of 66-44.

Hamilton opened with early momentum and confidence to jump to a 14-4 lead with four minutes remaining in the first quarter. However, a combination of free throws by Jimmie Taylor III and three-point shots by Marcus Lane pulled the ‘Dogs up by one to end the quarter (20-19).

The Trojans outscored Suwannee early in the second, but junior guard Deangelo Ross sank three 3-point shots in a row to help the Dogs reclaim the lead by halftime (35-31). Kevarrius Hayes was strong defensively with blocks and offensive put backs, and rebounds.

In the third quarter, senior guard Tony Frierson exploded with a combination of perimeter shooting, layups and offensive rebounds to lead the scoring drive for the ‘Dogs. Ross added another three-point shot, and Taylor scored two short jumpers and passed for several key assists to take the ‘Dogs into the fourth up by 13 (51-38).

Frierson and sophomore De’Andre Devore led scoring in the fourth, combining for 13 of the team’s final 16 points. With several minutes left in the game, Frank Smith, Dontavius Hampton, Demonte Roundtree and Makai Hines took the floor, led by Devore, whose final steal-layup combination sealed the Trojans’ fate.

Scoring was led by Frierson (20), Taylor (14), and Ross (12).  Rebounding was led by Devore (8), Taylor (8), and Hayes (5).  Team assists were led by Taylor (7), and blocks by Hayes (4).
