The Branford and Lafayette track teams had a strong showing in the Class 1A-District 5 Meet held Wednesday at Oak Hall High.
On the boys side, the Hornets placed third and the Buccaneers were fourth. The Branford girls came in second and the LHS girls finished in ninth place. There were 13 teams competing in the meet.
There were several individual district champions. For LHS, Garrison Beach won the 300 hurdles. For BHS, CJ Pepper placed first in pole vault and Dakota Stevens won the triple jump.
Branford’s Nathalia Veal was a district champion in the 100 hurdles and pole vault. Lafayette’s Jasmine Lewis won a district title in the long jump and triple jump.
The following athletes placed in the top four of their event and earned a spot in a regional meet April 27 at Cypress Creek High in Wesley Chapel.
Richy James — second place in 200-meter run, tied second place in high jump
Montae Gillyard — fourth place in 100-meter run, fourth place in long jump
Beach — first in 300 hurdles, second in 110 hurdles
Brian Posada, Dakota Hilton, Truett Maund, Emmanuel Tovar-Negrete — third in 4x800 relay
Lewis — first in long jump and triple jump
Pepper — First in pole vault, tied second in high jump, second in 300 hurdles, third in 110 hurdles
Stevens — First in triple jump, third in long jump
Lance Mathis — third in shot put
Adrik Miller — fourth in pole vault
Veal — first in 100 hurdles, first in pole vault, third in 300 hurdles
Kinleigh Collins — second in shot put
Tori Suggs — fourth in shot put
Zamaria Granado — third in 400-meter run, third in triple jump
Veal, Granado, Hannah Terry and Zoe Richmond — second in 4x400 relay
