The Bible says, “My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments; for length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to thee.” And, “Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the Lord, and depart from evil. It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones,” (Proverbs 3:1-2, 7-8). And, “A sound heart is the life of the flesh: but envy the rottenness of the bones,” (Proverbs 14:30 KJV).

Our physical health is directly affected by our spiritual health. Holiness of heart results in wholeness of body. And unholiness of heart leads to un wholeness of body. A pure and clear conscience radiates health from the inner man to the outer man. “In a measure, one’s bodily welfare stems from the welfare of the soul.” Our psyche does affect our physique.

Obedience to God’s Word (KJV) is the greatest thing we can do to be and stay healthy and is the greatest antidote to bad health. It makes us healthy and keeps us healthy in ways that no diet or exercise can.

A guilty conscience due to a life of sin and disobedience to God’s Word is like a cancerous tumor that spreads its poison from the inner man to the outer man until the whole is destroyed.

A guilty conscience robs us of peace, joy and happiness, things that are vital for our health. Sins that are committed not only end up incriminating us and giving us a guilty conscience, they also have their own built-in judgments that affect our physical health.

Alcoholism leads to cirrhosis of the liver; tobacco use to emphysema, cancer, and heart disease; immorality to venereal diseases and AIDS.

We often fight the symptoms of spiritual sickness in our physical man and lose the battle because we did not address its source, the sickness of the spiritual man.

Guilt causes emotional stress. And the one who lives under constant guilt will also live under constant stress. “It has been estimated that fear, sorrow, envy, resentment, hatred, guilt, and other emotional stresses account for more than 60 percent of our illness.” Emotional stress leads to high blood pressure and then heart attack or stroke.

All this guilt and stress can be removed and one can be on their way to good health the moment they repent of their sins and trust Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.

If God wills, He can heal all our diseases, but getting saved will not restore what years of abuse and living in sin have done to our bodies. Getting saved and walking in obedience to God’s Word will give us better health than we would have had we continued on in sin.

Obedience to God’s Word is the best way to get healthy and stay healthy. Disobedience to God’s Word is the first attack we make personally against our own well being.

When as a Christian we find ourselves sick, both emotionally and physically, the first step toward recovery is repentance toward God. Repentance is admitting that we’re sick and that our sickness in many instances, was self-inflicted and that we plead the blood of Christ for our healing. Our health, both spiritually and physically, are through the blood of Jesus.
