LIVE OAK — Westwood Christian held its graduation on Friday, May 24, for seven students.

Jonah Carson, Joshua Dyer, Hailey Hogan, Connor Mowry, Kara Rogers, Shayla Smith, Jayson Smithey were the 2019 graduates.

Smith was the valedictorian with a 3.74 GPA and Mowry was the salutatorian with a 3.64 GPA.

The guest speaker was Westwood Christian teacher and Faith Baptist Church pastor Ben Kurz.

Carrying a long rope that went from the front of the church all the way to the back, Kurz told the group of graduates that the tiny part of the rope he held in his hand represents their time on earth while the rest of the rope represents eternity.

“The Bible says life is like a vapor, it’s here and vanishes away,” Kurz said. “There’s part of you that says lets eat, drink, be merry, make the most of it. But if my life is just about pleasure, having an easy life, that is not the cross life. Jesus says if you want to have real life that lasts forever, live the cross life.”
