LIVE OAK, Fla. — A Live Oak man was arrested early Friday morning on murder charges after shooting his son-in-law Thursday night.
John Christopher Homan, 50, has been charged with murder and child abuse following a shooting around 8 p.m. Thursday at a residence on 193rd Road.
When Suwannee County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the residence, they found 36-year-old Jason Michael Bowers had been shot numerous times.
Bowers was transported to Shands Live Oak Regional Medical Center by Suwannee County Fire Rescue, but succumbed to his injuries.
According to an SCSO release, witnesses said the victim was just sitting in the yard when the suspect approached. Bowers was Homan’s son-in-law and they both lived at the residence.
The suspect then told a child near the victim to duck and proceed to shoot the victim, according to the SCSO release.
According to the release, a neighbor heard the shooting and saw the suspect standing over the victim yelling and punching the victim. The neighbor then fired two warning shots into the ground and remained at the residence until law enforcement arrived.

Sheriff Sam St. John said the suspect told a child at the residence to duck before shooting the victim multiple times.
