Fire Engine

Suwannee County Fire Rescue is hosting ‘push-in’ ceremonies for its three new engines going into service.

LIVE OAK — Suwannee County Fire Rescue will place three new engines into service in the next week.

But first, SCFR is holding a traditional “push-in” ceremony for each of the Rosenbauer engines. The first ceremony will be held Monday, Nov. 18, at 3 p.m. at Fire Station 1, 13530 80th Terrace in Live Oak; the second ceremony will be Tuesday, Nov. 19, at 3 p.m. at Fire Station 4, 10681 Dowling Park Drive in Dowling Park; and the third will be Nov. 21 at 3 p.m. at Fire Station 5, 12211 County Road 137 in Wellborn.

“The celebration of welcoming a new fire engine has been a source of pride in the fire services for over 100 years,” interim Public Safety Director Eddie Hand said in a release.

Part of that celebration was the “push back” ceremonies during the horse-drawn era when horses could not back-up the engines. Rather, fire fighters would unhitch the horses and push the fire engine in after returning from a fire.

SCFR is hosting the “push-in” ceremonies as way of honoring the firefighting tradition.
