BRANFORD — An O’Brien man was killed and two others sent to area hospitals in serious condition following a three-vehicle crash Thursday morning at the intersection of County Road 49 and State Road 247.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a blue GMC pickup was traveling south on CR 49 through the intersection with SR 247 around 7:30 a.m. Thursday when it drove in front of a Ford F-150 traveling north on SR 247.
After the F-150 struck the GMC on its right side, the GMC traveled into the grassy median while the F-150 then hit a Dodge Charger that was stopped at the stop sign on CR 49, the FHP report states.
John William Vann Jr., an 85-year-old from O’Brien and a passenger in the GMC, was transported to Lake City Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased.
The driver of the GMC, 85-year-old Carol Jean Vann, also of O’Brien, was transported to UF Health Shands Hospital in Gainesville, where she is in critical condition.
Author Benson Clay, a 53-year-old from Mayo, is also at Shands UF with serious injuries, but is in stable condition according to the report. Clay was driving the F-150.
The driver of the Dodge Charger, 53- year-old Kimberly Anne Collins, also of O’Brien, was not injured.
Charges are pending FHP’s investigation into the crash, which is ongoing, including the role, if any, alcohol played.
The northbound lane of SR 247 was closed the rest of Thursday morning following the crash.
