MAYO —The Mayo Woman’s Club hosted the District 3 meeting and art competition Feb. 9.

The participating District 3 Woman's Clubs included Mayo, Live Oak, Capital City, Tallahassee and Midtown Juniors.

The theme for the meeting was “You Make My Heart Smile.”

The Mayo and Live Oak club performed a skit to the song “Better Day,” by Gaither Vocal Band.

The winners of the competition were Best of Show and Best of Art: Japanese Garden by Todako Knight, with second place "Peaceful Water" by Nancy Singletary, of Mayo; Best of Craft: Pink Heart Afghan by Marie Cowart; and Best of Photography: "Merewood" by Susan McLeod.

The “Angel Gowns" by Jan Melvin, which are burial gowns made from wedding gowns, also won first place.

The pieces are eligible to compete at the Spring Convention in Orlando in April.

The Volunteer of the Year Award went to Jeane Calabrese of the Live Oak Club.

The Mayo Woman’s Club nominee was Nancy Singletary.
