A Thanksgiving morning fire damaged or destroyed eight mobile homes used as storage units at the Wayne Frier Mobile Homes sales lot.

Engines from Suwannee County Fire/Rescue (SCFR) and Live Oak Fire Department (LOFD) responded, as did units from the Falmouth, Wellborn and McAlpin volunteer fire departments.

The blaze, which began at about 4 a.m., was contained before it could spread to other nearby structures, including a mobile home park and new mobile homes lot.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. The Suwannee County Sheriff's Office (SCSO) reported there have been problems in the area recently.

Engine One of SCFR responded first, then called in city units after running out of water. Meanwhile, volunteer tanker units were en route. SCFR Station 2 at McAlpin also responded.

The fire was contained to the buildings ablaze when firefighters first arrived.

The loss was estimated at $85,000.
