Nancy Sult and Brenda Brown from the health department address the county commissioners.

The Hamilton County Health Department contract with the county was renewed for the 2013-14 fiscal year at the Sept. 17 meeting of the Hamilton County Board of County Commissioners.

Nancy Sult, Rn, MSN, DON, with the health department filled in for Mark Lander who was unable to make the meeting and brought with her new Operations/Business Manager for Columbia and Hamilton counties, Brenda Brown.

“As always, we enjoy serving the population of Hamilton County,” said Sult. “In the last year we went from having a physician to having a nurse practitioner full time and that has worked well for us. We are staying busy as usual.”

Sult said they are looking forward to the opening of the new rural health clinic to give them support for the needs of the community.

Brown asked for approval of the 2013-14 contract between the health department and Hamilton County. She told the commissioners that there would be a $9,000 increase in the contract with the county, from $91,464 to $100,464. The extra monies are needed to help support the pharmacy assistant position.

“We are anticipating a reduction in funding from the hospital authority that helps support that position,” said Brown. “In the past five years the program has provided over $1 million dollars at no cost to the clients.”

By a vote of 5-0, the board approved the new contract with the health department.
