A Live Oak woman has been arrested for child neglect and possession of marijuana after a three-year-old was found “crying and alone” outside the apartment she shared with her mother, Suwannee County Jail records show.
Three other children were found alone in the apartment around 10:20 p.m. Jan. 9.
Kimberly Patrice Herriott, 29, 823 W. Howard St., Room 12A, left her four children, ages 10, seven, six and three unattended in her apartment for at least two hours, reports show.
The woman’s three-year-old daughter was discovered by the manager outside of the apartment.
Jail records show that when authorities arrived and made contact with the other children, who were all asleep inside the apartment, a burnt marijuana cigarette was discovered in plain view, on top of a dresser beside the bed.
According to reports, the children told authorities from the Live Oak Police Department that they did not know where their mother had gone.
Records show that Herriott did admit to leaving her children alone around 10 p.m. and stated the marijuana was hers.
The Department of Children and Family Services took custody of the children.
Herriott was arrested and transported to the Suwannee County Jail, without incident, records show.
