The Suwannee County Chamber of Commerce has partnered with the Small Business Development Center at the University of North Florida to bring a Small Business/Agribusiness Consultant to our area that will benefit Suwannee, Columbia and Hamilton counties. The consultant is an administrative and professional position at UNF but will work closely with our local chamber.
“This consultant will play an important role in economic development and business development for new and existing small business owners,” said Suwannee Chamber Chairman Bruce Tillman. “I believe that often the small business gets forgotten when economic development is discussed.”
Tillman and Suwannee Extension Director Katherine Allen recently met with Robert Myers, area director SBDC, to hammer out the details in securing such a position.
“When the board of the Chamber was presented the opportunity, it was quickly approved,” said Tillman.
The position will pay between $45,000 and 50,000 with full benefits. The position will require the candidate to deliver management and technical assistance through individual business consulting and group training to owners of pre-venture, startup, micro and small and medium size enterprises. Special emphasis will be placed on educating and advising small farmers on how to start, grow and manage a small farm from a business perspective.
