LIVE OAK, Fla. — A Live Oak man was struck by a vehicle and killed Saturday morning along U.S. Highway 90 West.
According to the Live Oak Police Department, a man was discovered lying along the shoulder of U.S. 90 near daylight Saturday with officers responding around 6:50 a.m. Suwannee County Fire Rescue also responded and took over CPR on the victim, Archie Williams, of Live Oak. Williams was pronounced deceased at the scene.
According to the LOPD release, investigators are not sure how long Williams had been lying on the shoulder of the road.
The LOPD investigation, though, determined that Williams was a victim of a hit-and-run crash on the U.S. 90 roadway. That area of the highway has poor lighting and the victim was wearing dark clothing.
The release states that the investigation indicates the vehicle was not speeding at the time of the crash.
The investigation into the accident is ongoing and some details of the investigation have not been released.
According to the LOPD, though, evidence at the scene and surrounding businesses have led to a potential identification of the vehicle.
The LOPD is requesting anyone with information regarding the incident to come forward. The driver — or any passengers — in the vehicle are also encouraged to come forward for questioning.
