MAYO — The Lafayette County Public Library’s Summer Reading Program launched last week.

Don and Tutu Harrell bought their Orisirisi African Folklore program to the library June 10 to kick off the summer program, “A Universe of Stories.”

At the kickoff, children got to sing and dance to Nigerian style, as well as other African countries, music and drums and other African instruments.

The Harrells also told ancient African stories and provided a history of the instruments.

The summer program continued Thursday with the Bright Star Theater Group.

The next special program scheduled for the library is Tuesday with the Wild Wonders Animal Show.

Coming later this summer is Smokey the Bear on July 1, Mad Science on July 8 and Space Camp on July 15.

The library is also hosting Cooking with Ms. Eva today, June 27, July 11 and July 18.
