LAKE CITY — One lane of Interstate 10 westbound will be closed this afternoon for repairs, the Florida Department of Transportation has announced.
The work is scheduled to begin around 4:30 p.m. at the I-10 overpass of Interstate 75 in Columbia County. The work is expected to take around two hours depending on the weather.
The lane will be closed to allow for adjustments to the temporary barrier wall in place following an accident Monday afternoon.
A semi trailer heading west swerved to avoid an unknown vehicle that cut in front, causing a piece of machinery to fall off the trailer and roll down the interstate. The machinery caused major damage to the roadway and the overpass.
I-10 west as well as all lanes of Interstate 75 were closed Monday for more than six hours.
FDOT inspectors assessed the damaged concrete and installed a containment system on the bridge to ensure that vehicles traveling under the bridge on I-75 will not be damaged by potential falling concrete.
That system allowed the roadways to reopen, according to an FDOT release.
Further repairs on the I-10 overpass will be scheduled in the coming weeks.
