JASPER — The Hamilton County Alcohol and Other Drug Prevention Coalition held its first Human Trafficking Symposium on April 3.
The symposium was held to bring awareness and to educate rural counties on what human trafficking is and how it is here in the area.
The guest speakers were Lesley Hersey and Rainey Cannavino.
Hersey is a representative of LSF Health services and Outreach Coordinator for the Circuit 3 task force on Human Trafficking.
Cannavino was a victim of human trafficking for more than 20 years and now is co-founder of Bikers Against Human Trafficking, a nonprofit advocacy group.
Breakfast and lunch was provided by the Coalition’s partners, Cheek and Scott Pharmacy and the Hamilton County Development Authority.
It was an amazing learning experience for all who attended and very beneficial to our area. Reach out the Hamilton County Alcohol and Other Drug Prevention Coalition at 386-792-9388 for more information on human trafficking, the next symposium, and/or how one can become involved.
