Logan Hughes valedictorian

Logan Hughes was named valedictorian for the Class of 2019.

JASPER — Hamilton County High School honored its senior class last Thursday evening with Logan Hughes and Hunter McCulley taking the highest honors.

Hughes was named the valedictorian for the HCHS Class of 2019 with McCulley receiving the salutatorian recognition.

HCHS will hold graduation Friday night at 8 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Stadium.

Should there be inclement weather Friday — the forecast calls for showers during the day and the possibility of a few Friday night — Superintendent Rex Mitchell will determine if the inclement weather plan is implemented.

"We are going to make every effort to hold the ceremony on the football field even if we have to delay starting for a few minutes," Mitchell said in a statement. "I would advise that you consider bringing something to dry your seat and possibly keep you dry should we get a few sprinkles after starting the program."

If Mitchell determines that the ceremony can't safely be held outside, the plan includes moving graduation to the HCHS gym. Students and families will be notified of a change by callout and HCHS and Hamilton County School District will announce it on their social media pages.

Graduates will be issued 10 inclement weather tickets at graduation practice. Guests with tickets will be granted admission at 6:45 p.m. at the rear entrance, behind the red gate, of the gym.

Admission will be granted to the general public, those without a ticket, at the front entrance of the gym, beginning at 7:45 p.m. until capacity is reached.

Graduates will also receive two priority red tickets in their allotment of 10 tickets. Priority tickets will be granted admission at any point during the graduation ceremonies at the rear entrance of the gym

Tickets will be collected by school officials as guests enter the gym. Reentry without a ticket will not be permitted.

"This is a very special night for our graduates and every effort will be made to ensure they have the best ceremony possible," Mitchell added in his statement.

A full list of award and scholarship winners will be announced following graduation.
