JASPER — Lisa St. John, owner of the “historic Old Shepherd House” in Jasper, has converted this little slice of Hamilton County history into a hometown café that will serve residents and visitors.

St. John has two renowned chefs volunteering their expertise at the Hatley Street Cafe, which celebrated its grand opening Jan. 23 in Art Smith and Adrian DeBerardinis.

Smith — a Hamilton County native, who is also very well known throughout the Disney Springs area and was also a personal Chef for Oprah for 10 years — paired with DeBerardinis — also known as the internet sensation Bear-Naked Chef — to make for a taste-tastic duo for this one of a kind café within the confines of Florida’s Front Porch.

As part of the grand opening celebration Jan. 23, the Hamilton County Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting at the restaurant, which included several locals and Chamber representatives.

Hatley Street Café receives its greens from Cultiva Farms, another Chamber member, making it one of the first “Farm to Table” café’s in Hamilton County. The eggs are also bought from a farm just across the Georgia state line.

Two students at Oak Grove Academy, Ryan and Trevor, are also interning at the restaurant with Smith. They have learned hummingbird cakes and scones.

Hatley Street Café is open Tuesdays-Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with special limited hours pending for the future.

“It’s exciting when any new business opens, but especially when that new business offers such a refreshing experience for the community,” said Samantha Prueter, President of the Hamilton County Chamber of Commerce.
