MAYO — The Hamilton County Board of County Commissioners issued a declaration of local emergency due to Hurricane Michael Monday night.

The Hamilton County schools will be closed Wednesday and Thursday.

Officials are still looking into the possibility of opening a shelter Tuesday.

A Tropical Storm Warning remained in effect for Hamilton County as of Tuesday morning.

"I encourage the residents to take precaution," Sheriff Harrell Reid said.

While the impact appears lessened for the Suwannee Valley, there is still projected to be around 3 inches of rain Wednesday and Thursday with sustained winds of 20-30 miles per hour and gusts up to 40 miles per hour.
