TIFTON — The Lady Devils softball team of Tift County High will hope that the Watermelon Invitational in Cordele is extra sweet this weekend.
Tift is seeking its first wins of the season and have three games in the two-day tournament to pick up a ‘W.’
The Lady Devils have one game scheduled this afternoon, against Bainbridge at 5 p.m. They will play twice Saturday, at 9:30 a.m. against Marion County and versus Peach County at 11:30 a.m.
Bainbridge is listed as having a 4-4 record, including a 2-0 loss to Worth County earlier this week; Tift fell to Worth Monday.
Marion is 3-0 and Peach was 4-0 as of Thursday. The latter has had games that have resembled football scores, with 17-10, 11-3 and a 23-19 win to their credit.
Tift has had tough luck in their games, with a 6-4 loss to Ware County on the road and a near defeat of unbeaten Veterans Tuesday.
Following the Watermelon Invitational, Tift is set to host Early County next Monday and Crisp Wednesday.
