CUMMING, Ga. — Tift County’s swim teams took sixth place at the Lambert Holiday Invitational last weekend. It was a balanced effort from the Swim Devils; the girls were fifth at 218 points and the boys were seventh at 131.
Tift was the only team not from north Georgia to point at the event, which took place at the Cumming Aquatic Center.
Eden Troxell finished first in the 200-yard freestyle and the 500 freestyle. Troxell swam in 1:57.94 in the 200, not quite a second ahead of Jordan Edwards of South Forsyth, whose time was 1:58.53. The 500 freestyle was a relative runaway in comparison, with Troxell’s finishing time 5:08 to the 5:24 of second place. Third place in the 500 freestyle went to teammate Lauren Stone.
Troxell combined with three teammates for Tift County’s third and final win of the day, this one in the 400 freestyle relay. Cason Johnston, Troxell, Karoline Ponder and Ainsley Toews won in 3:50.56.
J.D. Bengston recorded a second place finish in the 100 freestyle and third in the 50 freestyle. The margin was extremely slim in the latter race. Logan Cornelison of North Forsyth won at 21.75 seconds and Owen Holland of West Forsyth was second at 22.11. In the former, Bengston touched the finish line at 50.65 seconds.
Tift earned third places in the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke with Beau Bengston and in the 100 freestyle with Johnston. It was also the position of the girls 200 freestyle relay team, composed of Johnston, Troxell, Ponder and Toews.
