JASPER — A food service worker at the Hamilton Correctional Institution was arrested Thursday after having sex with an inmate at the state prison.
According to Department of Corrections Office of Inspector General report, 21-year-old Shanterria Levona Gandy, of Jasper, was arrested on charges of sexual misconduct and introduction of contraband for electronic transmissions following an investigation.
The report states there was video evidence showing the suspect going in and out of a cooler in food service at HCI on three different occasions with an inmate, the most recent being July 25.
According to the report, the inmate’s Jpay email account revealed correspondence with a “Trina Johnson” that suggested he was in a relationship with a female staff member at the prison.
The inmate allegedly admitted during an interview to being in a relationship with the suspect and that she created the “Trina Johnson” account to disguise her identity, the report states.
According to the report, the inmate also admitted to having sexual intercourse with the suspect on three occasions, most recently two weeks ago — or around July 25.
The report states video shows the two going in and out of the cooler on July 18, July 19 and July 25.
Gandy has been charged with three counts of sexual misconduct and one count of introduction of contraband.
