MAYO — The Lafayette County Fire Department received a helping hand locally towards equipment upgrades.

The local First Federal Bank branch recently presented the department with a $1,000 check to help with the purchase of new gear for the volunteer fire fighters following a fundraiser through the bank.

The fundraiser with the bank’s Community Rewards Program raised 50 cents per credit transaction at the bank, which amounted to the $1,000 in just one month.

The LCFD thanks First Federal Bank for its help in ensuring the volunteers have the equipment necessary to continue to keep the citizens of Lafayette County safe, and able to respond to calls for service.

“It was great finding out we surpassed our goal in only a month’s time frame, it has helped tremendously and we appreciate First Federal and their employees for helping us with our goal,” Fire Chief J.C. Lawson said.

“It’s so great to be a part in helping our community by reaching goals they set,” added Wendy Hamlin, the Lafayette branch manager for First Federal.
