MAYO — Lafayette County residents will get a chance locally to learn and ask questions about a proposed toll road through North Florida later this month.

Following a meeting of the M-CORES (Multi-use Corridors of Regional Economic Significance) Taskforce in Perry on Dec. 17, an open house will be held Dec. 19 at the community center in Day from 5-7:30 p.m. During the open house, residents will be able to learn about the proposed toll road project and ask questions of the Florida Department of Transportation about the project as well.

Ryan Asmus, a roadway design project engineer for FDOT, attended the Lafayette County Board of County Commissioners meeting Nov. 25 to update the board about the taskforce meetings, which are held regionally. He also thanked Anthony Adams, the chairman of the board, for serving on the taskforce.

Also during the meeting, the board opened two bids that were received for the McCray Grade Project. Anderson Columbia bid $856,027.18 while Kurt’s Construction’s bid was $1,225,000.07.

Adams suggested the board discuss those bids more during a workshop scheduled for Dec. 2. Also in that workshop, the board planned to discuss roads to submit for SCRAP and SCOP programs with FDOT. The deadline to submit roads for those projects is Jan. 31.
