BRANFORD — Through the generous donation by, and in cooperation with, Branford Rotarian Al Torrans and North Florida Pharmacies, on Feb. 25, Branford Rotary Club members were able to collect and deliver 14 used wheelchairs to Pensacola to be used in the Rotary District 6940 International Wheelchair Project.

The Wheelchair Project missions are led by Pensacola Five Flags Club Rotarian Ron Gillette, owner of Gillette Wheelchairs and Medical Supplies in Pensacola. Ron and his son, Ross, refurbish the used wheelchairs. Nearly 150 chairs per year are fitted individually to persons with special needs in Central America. Hundreds of people have been served, but thousands remain in need of the specially equipped wheelchairs.

If anyone has a wheelchair that is no longer in use and would like to donate it to the Rotary Club of Branford for use in the project, please contact Club President Dr. Mel Kemmerer at 386-935-0988. Wheelchairs may be dropped off at Branford Dental or arrangements can be made to pick them up.
