LIVE OAK — The Suwannee County Tourist Development Council (also known as Visit Suwannee) recently won a Flagler Award in the category of rural marketing from Visit Florida for its efforts to promote Suwannee County as a vacation destination.

The Flagler Awards are an annual statewide competition recognizing outstanding Florida tourism marketing. The program was created by VISIT FLORIDA to honor the countless individuals and organizations that help position Florida as the No. 1 travel destination in the world. Each year the Flagler Awards pay tribute to the determined efforts of those who use their skill, resourcefulness, creativity and innovative spirit to market Florida to the world.

This competition is not limited to destination marketing organizations. Any Florida-based business, organization or individual actively involved in promoting the various products and experiences that makeup Florida's tourism industry may enter the Flagler Awards. That includes hotels, restaurants, museums, parks, gardens, rental car companies, airlines, visitor centers, attractions and more.

Prior to 2018, Suwannee County did not have a website solely dedicated to tourism. With the fierce competition from more well-known tourist destinations, the TDC decided to undertake the initiative of bringing more awareness to our county and increasing the number of visitors each year. The award won by Suwannee County’s TDC is based on this campaign which included the creation of its logo, website and video to promote Suwannee County.
