BRANFORD — The Rotary Club of Branford used its regular weekly meeting Oct. 2 to kick off Scarecrow Row.
The purpose of the new event is to draw families to walk the Branford downtown areas, continue to foster a fun spirit of community camaraderie, and raise money to invest back into the children and youth of Branford.
The Rotary Club started the event by decorating the base of a light pole on Suwannee Avenue with a scene from the Wizard of Oz.
Businesses and individuals may enter the event and contest by decorating a light pole in keeping with the Branford Club’s adopted theme, “Rotary Connects the World through Movies,” a spin-off of Rotary International’s theme for 2019, “Rotary Connects the World.” The pole sponsorship is $35 and can be paid online at: https://branfordrotary.square.site/ or mailed to Rotary Club of Branford, PO Box 953, Branford, FL 32008.
Proceeds from the event will be used to offset the cost of Halloween candies given out by Branford residents, as well as at the annual Fall Festival. Branford’s Halloween event will be held on Saturday, Oct. 26.
