Fallen hero Scott Collins remembered

Live Oak — Funeral services for Fireman William Scott Collins, 39, were held on Tuesday at the First United Methodist Church at 11 a.m. Collins passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 13, while at his hunting club in Polk County.

Family, friends and representatives from local agencies gathered to remember Collins and to honor his heroic profession and personality.

Fire trucks led the procession from the First United Methodist Church to Live Oak Cemetery. Before arriving at the final resting place, firefighters parked their trucks on Hwy. 129 in front of the Chamber of Commerce and stood at attention as the fire alarm sounded throughout the city in his honor.

The procession continued to Live Oak Cemetery as people gathered around the graveside to pay their respects to the fallen hero. During a heartfelt moment, a final call was made to FD 8, Collin’s department number, followed by a fly over by Shands.

Funeral services were concluded with Amazing Grace played on bagpipes.

This American hero will be missed by the Live Oak Fire Department, friends and family.
