Ronald Lamar Hingson age 65 of Williamson, Ga. passed away Nov. 3, 2012 at his residence. Mr. Hingson was born on Nov. 14, 1946 in Live Oak, Fla. son of the late Willie Hingson and the late Lucille Croft Hingson. He was a truck driver or many years and an avid fan of the Atlanta Braves.
In addition to his parents, he was preceeded in death by his sisters, Ann Hingson and Helen Jones.
He leaves behind a wife of 39 years Betty Hingson of Williamson, Ga., a son Andy and Jeannie Hingson, daughters and son-in laws Amy and Jimmy Holderfield, Linda and Forrest Dixon of Williamson, Ga. Siblings, Bobby Hingson, Marin Hingson, Marie Marshall all of Live Oak, Fla. Grandchildren: Nikki and Jimmy Parks, Alexis and Jay Diedrick, Kyle Dixon., two great grandchildren, all of Williamson, Ga.
Service was held on Nov. 5, 2012 at Moody-Daniel Funeral Home in Zebulon, Ga.

Lillian Davis, 89, of Live Oak, FL died Nov. 12, 2012 at Good Samaritan Center. She was born in Dowling Park, June 3, 1923 to Horace and Lizzie Platt and was a lifelong resident of Suwannee County. She was a member of Rocky Sink Baptist Church for over 70 years where she taught Sunday School and was the song leader for many of those years. She and her first husband, Fred Robinson, were farmers and they had six children, James, David, Kenneth, Louise, Freddie, and Nancy. After Fred’s death in 1954, she later married Horace K. Davis and they had one son, Arthur (Sonny).
Lillian was known by many from having worked at Eagle’s Department Store, Henry Van’s Grocery, and W. B. Howland’s Grocery & Hardware Store. She retired from Howland’s in 1988 after 30 years of service and becoming famous for dipping ice cream for the young and old throughout those years. She was loved by many nieces and nephews, 20 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, 7 great, great grandchildren, 12 step-grandchildren, and 25 step-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her two husbands, her parents, three sons (David, Kenneth, and Freddie Robinson), one grandson (Darrell Robinson), one son-in-law (Ward Hellstrom), two brothers, five sisters and several nieces and nephews.
She is survived by two sons, James Robinson (Linda) and Sonny Davis (Sandy), and two daughters, Louise Robinson Hellstrom and Nancy Robinson Sly (Paul).
A visitation was held from 5–7 p.m, Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2012 at Daniels Funeral Home, Live Oak, FL. Funeral services for Mrs. Davis was held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Nov 14, 2012 at Rocky Sink Baptist Church with Rev. Robert Carter officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to Rocky Sink Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 8422 169th Road, Live Oak, FL 32060.

Brian Allen Fox, 35, of Live Oak, Fla. passed away on Thursday, Nov. 8, 2012 at Shands Hospital in Gainesville, Fla.  Brian was born and raised in Live Oak and graduated from Suwannee High School.  He worked at Lowe’s where he enjoyed helping his customers and co-workers.  Brian was honest, simple, opinionated and loving.  He will be missed dearly by his friends and family.
Brian is survived by his parents: Charles & Sheila Fox, Live Oak, Fla.; brother: Daniel Clayton Fox, Live Oak, Fla.; maternal grandparents: William E & Virginia Christine Jenkins; many other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents: Clayton E. & Jeanette Fox.

Joyce Lavonne Franklin

Joyce Lavonne Franklin, age 61, passed away  Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2012 at North Florida Regional Hospital Gainesville, Florida. She was the daughter of the late James Hicks and Gladys Williams Hicks. 
Joyce (Doll) received her high school diploma from Suwannee High School. She was a member of the class of 1970.
Joyce confessed Christ at an early age and joined Mt. Moriah IAME Church until her passing. She was a faithful member of the usher board. She leaves to cherish her memories her three children: Keith Hicks of Sebring, Fla., Chanise “Niecey” Cameron, Live Oak, Fla.; Kendrick Anderson, Lake Butler, Fla. One step-daughter, Renee Franklin Wimberly, Patterson, New Jersey. Two brothers, Willie “Bo” Hicks, Live Oak, Florida and Larry Holland (Mary) Memphis, Tenn. Four sisters: Jannie R. Hicks, St. Petersburg, Fla.; Earnestine Riley, Karen Jackson (Jimmy) and Lorraine Williams (Johnny) of Live Oak, Fla. Two uncles: James Williams, Live Oak, Fla.; and Hinson Hicks San Diego, Calif. One aunt: Corine Ethridge, Live Oak, Fla.; nine grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. 
The family will meet and greet friends Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Mt. Moriah IAME Church. Rev. Floyd Jones pastor.

Richard Harold Scaff

Richard Harold Scaff, 70, of Lake City, FL, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2012 at North Florida Regional Hospital, following a courageous battle with cancer. 
Richard was born in Japer, Fla., on Sept. 4, 1942 and was a resident of Lake City, Fla., for around 40 years.   He was a member of First Baptist Church of Lake City, a veteran of The U.S. Marine Corps, and was retired from S&S Food Stores after 40 years of dedicated service. Hobbies included gardening, woodworking, and spending time with his wife at their river home. 
Richard was preceded in death by his mother and father, Elsie Louise and Stafford L. Scaff Jr.
 Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Rena Vee Scaff; daughter, Jenny (Bruce) Drawdy of Lake City; stepdaughter, Debbie (Garry) Durham of  Cross City, Fla.; stepson, Dennis (Vicki) Lord of Lake City; sister, Marie (David) Goolsby of Jasper, Fla.; brothers, Lester (Anne) Scaff of Lake City and Gary (Teresa) Scaff of Hasford, FL, six grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. 
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Nov.16, 2012 at First Baptist Church of Lake City with Rev. Robert Bass officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 P.M. on Thursday, Nov.15, 2012 at Gateway Lawn Forest Funeral Home. Richard Eugene Slater

Richard Eugene Slater, 75, Live Oak, Fla. passed away on Thursday, Nov. 1, 2012 after a long illness. The Zanesville, OH native moved to Live Oak thirty plus years ago form Orange Springs, Fla. and was of Presbyterian faith. He was a Veteran of Peacetime while serving in the Army, enjoyed NASCAR racing and homing pigeons. He also liked the outdoors, hunting and fishing.
Mr. Slater is survived by his wife: Gloria Slater, Live Oak, Fla.; two daughters: Vicki (Michael) Fugate, Newport Richey, Fla.; Sherry Harrison, New Port Richey, Fla.; one son: Michael (Vivienne) Slater, Clearwater, Fla.; one sister: Eileen (Don) Sgontz, Dayton, OH; one brother: Ronald Slater, Columbus, OH; seven grandchildren: Joshua Harrison, Jacob Harrison, Brandon Fugate, Dylan Fugate, Bradley Burke, Amira Slater and Brianna Slater.
He was preceded in death by his son: Richard Eugene ‘Dickie’ Slater, Jr. (2006)
The family will have a memorial service at a later date.

Naomi Mallory Dennard

Naomi Mallory Dennard, 107, passed away Nov. 13, 2012 at the Advent Christian Village in Dowling Park , Fla. She was a native of Wellborn, Fla. and the daughter of the late Ruby and Ralph Mallory of Wellborn. Her husband of 47 years, Bernice, preceded her in death. Survivors include two nieces: Virginia Kindberg (Carl) and Emily Robarts (Gene) of Lake City; Bernice’s three nephews: Joe Raines (Etta), Jacksonville, Gary Raines (Mary Charles) Thomasville, Boyd Raines (Paula), Virginia Beach, and many beloved great-nieces and nephews.
She graduated from Columbia High School in Lake City in 1923, took the teacher’s exam and began her teaching career in Wellborn. Later, she enrolled in Florida State College for Women in Tallahassee and graduated in 1943. Mrs. Dennard taught school in Florida and in Georgia where she retired after 37 years.  She was a lifelong active member of the Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Garden Club of Cairo and a member of the Eastern Star.  She enjoyed being “Queen for a Day” at the 150th Anniversary of Wellborn Methodist Church in 2007.
Naomi loved traveling. She attended two World Fairs, traveled extensively around the United States, Canada and to Oberammergau, Germany for the Passion Play. Her greatest loves were church and family and she was a mainstay at family functions well past her 100th birthday; attending all family gatherings, especially Thanksgiving in Jacksonville and Christmas in Lake City.
Naomi and Bernice lived in Tyler, TX while Bernice served in the U.S. Army. They moved back to Wellborn briefly and then on to the Georgia towns of Thomasville and Pavo and then made their home in Cairo for many years. Following Bernice’s death, Naomi moved to the Advent Christian Village in Dowling Park, Fla. in 1996 and will be remembered by her many friends there for her cheerful attitude and helpful nature.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 16th at Wellborn Methodist Church with Rev. Jim Messer and Rev. John Harper presiding.
