Mayo — Jack and Patricia Byrd have been selected as the 2013 Pioneer Day Granny and Pappy and will be ceremoniously installed on Monday, Oct. 7, in the lobby of the Lafayette County Courthouse.

The Pioneer Day Festival is coming up Oct. 11-12.

Jack and Patricia have been married for 42 years. They have four sons, Everett, Jason, Patrick and Brian, and eight grandchildren, Jerrica, J.T. Byrd, Evie, Jeremy, Eli, Erin, Emmie and Jenna.

Jack has been in the logging business most of his life and also owns Byrd’s Power Equipment. He has been a county commissioner for almost 24 years. His wife Patricia has always been a housewife and enjoys her hobbies of sewing and gardening.

Last year’s Granny and Pappy, Jackie and Bill Hart, will be on hand at the swearing in ceremony to pass on their kerchief and bonnet, which will be presided over by County Judge Darren Jackson.

The public is invited to attend the ceremony and also enjoy some cake and punch at the reception immediately afterward.

Congratulations Patricia and Jack Byrd, Pioneer Day Granny and Pappy for 2013!
