HamCo school district recognized by SACS

Jasper — At the Dec. 9 meeting of the Hamilton County School Board, Phyllis Porter, coordinator of federal programs for the district, presented the school board and Superintendent Thomas Moffses with a plaque from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) recognizing their District Accreditation Quality Achievement Award.

“As you know, we went through a very rigorous review as a district for SACS accreditation,” Porter reminded the board.

Porter said the process of accreditation was completed in the spring, however, they just now received the actual proof by way of the award plaque.

“We actually had no findings, no areas of improvement, and they think we’re a quality district,” she said.

Moffses explained that normally SACS will find areas within a school district that need improvement during their review, which need to be addressed within an 18-24 month period.

“We had no finding of fact in our review and are not required to go through SACS accreditation or any other review process for another five years,” said Moffses. “It’s a tremendous honor to be able to receive this, but the credit goes to the staff and their dedication for what they’ve done within the district.”
