Rant & Rave for July 18, 2014

Live Oak —

Response to R&R from June 27 about being a native in Suw Cty...YES you do.  Can't get a job, can't open a business, can't run for office, etc, etc.  Let me add that you will be discriminated against more in the Justice System too. "Are you from Suwannee County?"  Beware of that "friendly" question.  Too many old timers heads are filled with "200 year old mentality".  Out with the old, in with the new!!

People should know that 4 wheelers are not allowed on roads. I observed a  one driven by a young lady wearing some type of county employee tee shirt on Goldkist at the stop sign, then turned on the road that goes to the county offices.  Guess it's okay for them.

With the constant push to raise taxes, how about a follow up on the airport with legit questions deserving answers? 5,000 take off/ landing per yr., 14 per day, really? Since it is unmanned 3x more than staffed, who knows? What are operating costs, incl. salaries, maint. etc. per year? Are we collecting user fees from planes to offset this or are taxpayers covering cost for select few who own planes? Are very profitable flight schools using the facility @ little or no cost? If so, great way to cut overhead for them. What % of supplies, goods, services are contracted from in county businesses? Break it down for leisure and business use that benefits our local economy. We offer little in hospitality & recreation, so that isn't a big draw or revenue boost. Does it turn a buck or not? Don't start with fed. funds, grants, matching sources or fuel tax, it's not income, it's out of regular folks pockets!

****

The airport article looks like political fluff, news should be facts & figures. The poor management & bad decisions there just cost taxpayers millions. Wasn't that the same lawyer now involved with Suwannee Trasint scandal? Kinda makes ya wonder, don't it?
