Hamilton: Special Olympics Torch Run comes to downtown Jasper

Jasper — The Hamilton County Special Olympics Torch Run was held Wednesday, April 23, in downtown Jasper in preparation for the state summer games to be held in Kissimmee May 15-17, at Disney Wide World of Sports.

The torch has been passed along from county to county beginning April 3 in Tallahassee. Hamilton County received the torch from Suwannee County on Tuesday, April 22. On April 23 at 11:30 a.m. Hamilton County passed the torch on to Madison County.

The Hamilton County Sheriff's Office, Jasper Police Department, Hamilton County Correctional Institution, a runner from the Hamilton County High School track team, along with state Agricultural officers and, of course, some of the Special Olympics athletes participated in the event, as well as many local citizens.
