Rant & Rave for Jan. 31, 2014

Live Oak —

Tax dollars should never be used to allow government to be in 'business,' whether its new development or providing public transportation.  People must be responsible for their own well-being, even when it fails.

****

Thank you Suwannee Democrat for saying what needs to be said. Unity in government is key to success here. It is time to start thinking about unifying the City and County into one government entity. This will reduce the cost of government, streamline regulations, and perhaps expedite our economic recovery.

The planning counsels are obsolete, it's time to hire professionally trained people in this community to best plan for our future. The North Fla Planning Council only creates more problems for us and work security for themselves. Let's do what's right for Suwannee County. Keep our money at home and hire professionals.

****

Too many personal agendas get wrapped up in City and County business. Even Citizen review counsels feel it. Can't we all just get along and work together for a change?

****

The basic assumption in any definition of economic development is the objective is to create wealth for the community. In order to do so, these fundamental principles must exist:

Competitiveness; Equity; Global Economy; Comprehensive Strategy; Regional Collaboration; Industrial Focus; Customer Orientation; Partnerships; Measurement and Evaluation; and Learning.

Just read in the Rant and Rave of Jan.24th, the rave regarding our County Administrator, Randy Harris, and his"tenacity to do the right thing for Suwannee County"! I attend every Board meeting and do my research on issues. Please tell me what "right things" Mr. Harris has done for our county. What I see under his leadership is a ballooning deficit, borrowing millions to continue to pour good money after bad at the catalyst site, and no evidence of pre-planning/research on ANYTHING! We're years into a project with no real plan of action. Every issue is addressed with a knee-jerk reaction that is the result of lack of the above factors. I understand he is not an economist, but can someone who is, try to explain to him the Law Of Demenishing Return?? The best thing Mr. Harris could do for the county, is to resign!

Do you think the city of Live Oak should have a city-manager form of government or leave it as a city-administrator form of government?

Change to a city-manager.
Keep it as city-administrator.
Don’t care either way.
