Democrat Says - Light up the Christmas season

Live Oak —

This time of year can be quite busy for many with all the Christmas shopping, cooking, Christmas parties, church plays and traveling to visit family. We understand the schedule can be hectic, but we would like to encourage you to slow down for a few minutes and indulge in the Christmas spirit. Clear your calendar, and go enjoy the evening at one of these events. It’s sure to light up your Christmas spirit.

Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park is lit up this year with Christmas lights everywhere. For a small admission fee, guests can drive through the park and enjoy a variety of scenes with Christmas lights. At the end of the tour, visit with Santa Claus, sit around a camp fire and enjoy some classic Christmas tunes. Don’t forget to grab a cup of hot chocolate to complete the evening.

Head out to Stephen Foster Folk Culture Center State Park in White Springs for their Festival of Lights. The event began Friday, Dec. 6, and will end Friday, Jan. 3, 2014. Drive your car through the park and set your eyes on over five million lights. The Antebellum Museum will be dressed in full holiday splendor, along with a gingerbread village, a candy cane forest, Santa’s runway and much more. The park’s centerpiece is the 200 foot tall Carillon Tower, which illuminates the night sky as holiday music rings from its bells. Complimentary hot cocoa and popcorn are served nightly as the Craft Square comes alive with craft demonstrations, a bonfire, marshmallow roasting and holiday singing for everyone. Visitors can experience a “flurry” of fun in their winter wonderland which includes Santa. Weather reports predict a chance of snow flurries every evening on the hour and giant snow families have been spotted in the area.

On Saturday, Dec. 14, from 12-5 p.m., Altrusa International Inc. of Live Oak will be holding its annual Christmas Tour of Homes. The tour begins at Heritage Park and Gardens on Helventson Street, where guests will be provided with refreshments and a direction map. The tour will include stops at six homes along the way. Tickets can be purchased at McCrimmon’s Office Supply and the Supervisor of Elections Office.

We hope you and your family will have a Merry Christmas.
