16-year-old wins again at Bubba Raceway Park

Mayo — On Saturday, April 13, Devin Walker, a 16-year-old racing legend from Mayo, racked up yet another win this year at Bubba Raceway Park in Ocala in the Hobby Stocks division, by being the first to cross the finish line.

“This is my third win into the season,” said Walker. “I can’t do it without my sponsors.”

Walker’s 2013 sponsors include Danny Lasoski, Champion Race Helmets, Honeycutt Auto Mart, Mayo Fertilizer, Takedown Outdoors, JOB/TLB, Henderson Lawn Care, Suwannee Salvage, Milodon, Hamlin’s Auto Supply, J.D. Criswell, O’Neal Construction, Mayo Auto Parts, B&B Auto, Willco Graphics, Durden Motorsports, Byrd’s Power Equipment, Five Star Bodies, North Florida Animal Rescue and Walker Farms.

So far in 2013, Walker has won three out of eight races, has placed in the top two twice, the top five twice, and several places in the top 10.

On his website, www.devinwalker55.com it states, “This weekend we went to Bubba Raceway Park in Ocala. Devin started on the tail of his heat, but at the checkered flag it was Devin taking the win by a  nose.”

The featured line up had Walker taking the green in 4th position and he found himself in a four-way tussle for the lead, finally snatching it on lap 6 after a couple early cautions.

The next caution set up a side-by-side restart with Walker and his dad. Walker gained the advantage and pulled away to take the victory. You can watch the race at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zSrI0IURNas.

Walker began racing at the ripe young age of 13, saving birthday money to pay for half of his first race car. He won his first feature on his 11th try where he caught the attention of World of Outlaws star Danny Lasoski, who vowed to support him 100 percent.

Since then, Walker has had numerous wins and been the recipient of many awards. His goal, he says, is to take his dream as far as God will allow him. He believes that without God, nothing is possible. His ultimate goal is the Sprint Cup, but, he said, the World of Outlaws or Nationwide wouldn’t be too bad, either.

“Next week we plan to go to Volusia Speedway Park,” said Walker. “Hope to see you there.”
