Local dentist killed in Perry wreck

Live Oak —

A local dentist who practiced his trade in Dowling Park was killed early Sunday morning after his vehicle overturned and struck a tree in Taylor County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Benjamin L. “Ben” Morgan DMD, 29, Perry, of Morgan Family Dentistry, was southbound on CR 361 (Beach Road) around 2:50 a.m. Sunday when the 2007 Chevy Silverado he was driving ran off the west side of the road. Morgan reportedly over-corrected back onto the roadway. The Silverado then crossed both travel lanes and drove off the east side of the road, overturned and struck a tree.

Morgan was wearing a seatbelt, according to FHP.

The Taylor County Sheriff’s Office and Doctors Memorial EMS responded to the scene. Morgan was transported to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital by EMS where he was pronounced deceased.

Morgan practiced dentistry at Morgan Family Dentistry in Dowling Park. The practice also has an office in Perry.

Morgan is a graduate of Taylor County High School and received a Bachelor of Science from Jacksonville University. He then attended Nova Southeastern University, College of Dental Medicine, earning a Doctorate of Dental Medicine. He later received a Master in Dental Business Administration from the University of Florida. Morgan joined Morgan Family Dentistry at the W.B. Copeland Medical Center in Dowling Park in 2011. Morgan also practiced his craft at the office in Perry and at the Health and Wellness Center at Florida State University.

Twelve year employee of Morgan Family Dentistry and dental hygienist, Jessica Huff, said that Morgan was always jovial, but quiet and tender hearted.

“He was very genuine,” said Huff.

Front desk clerk and dental assistant Kim Kirk began working with Morgan the first day on the job.

“I have a tremendous amount of respect for him,” said Kirk. “He was an amazing dentist.”

She said he had a good sense of humor. Both Huff and Kirk said he was very down to earth and wouldn’t look down on anyone.
