Live Oak —
Dale Henry Wilkins, Jr.
Dec. 30, 2013
Dale Henry Wilkins, Jr. of Live Oak, Fla., passed away suddenly of natural causes on Dec. 30, 2013 at the age of 63. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dale and Mary Wilkins of Homosassa, Fla., and his son, Austin.
Survivors include his loving wife Cynthia, son William Wilkins, daughter Rachel Robson, stepdaughters Amber Gilmore and Tara Fletcher, and their families; as well as 8 grandchildren and siblings Debbie (King), Danny, Henry and David and their families. Dale had a passion for many things, particularly public service. He volunteered for two tours of duty as a ground radio operator in Vietnam with the Air Force – an experience that had a profound influence on his life. Upon his return, he joined the Florida Department of Corrections where he proudly served for 27 years, most recently at the rank of major. While he loved his work, he also found great joy in his retirement. Like his father, he was drawn to nature and spent many happy hours hunting, fishing, and enjoying the outdoors.
He was devoted to his wife, his family and his friends and his happiest hours were with them: attending auctions and antiquing with his beloved Cynthia, making his annual pilgrimage to Missouri to visit his friend Sheriff Underwood, watching his cousin Drew Stanton play football (most recently with the Arizona Cardinals), and hosting gatherings at the Live Oak Victorian house he and Cynthia were lovingly restoring. Dale brought great love, laughter, and fun times to all who knew and loved him and he will be deeply missed.
ICS Cremation and Funeral Home in Lake City, Fla. is handling arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations in Dale’s name to the Wounded Warriors Fund.
