HamCo schools closed tomorrow due to expected icy road conditions

Jasper — Hamilton County schools will be closed tomorrow, Thursday, Jan. 30, due to anticipated icy road conditions, according to a press release from Superintendent Thomas Moffses.

Moffses announced Wednesday afternoon that the Hamilton County School District’s schools and offices will be closed on Thursday, Jan. 30 due to the icy road conditions expected in the morning for the area.

“The decision to close was made following discussions with Emergency Management Director Henry Land earlier today,” said Moffses. “The safety of students and employees is a major concern, and the expected road conditions during the morning hours could hinder safe travel.”

The weather is expected to clear by Thursday afternoon, so the school board workshop scheduled for Thursday evening at 6 p.m. at Central Hamilton Elementary will be conducted as originally advertised.

The school district will resume normal operating hours on Friday, January 31.
