Fizz, Boom, Read! Children’s summer reading program in Mayo

Mayo — Three Rivers Regional Library Director Dale Collum stopped in at the Rotary Club of Mayo on Wednesday, June 18, not only to introduce himself, but to remind everyone of the exciting summer reading program going on at Lafayette County Public Library.

Collum explained that Three Rivers is the administrative head of four different libraries in Lafayette, Dixie, Taylor and Gilchrist counties. Because they are a consortium it allows them to obtain state aid, he said. Three Rivers provides the technology, keeps the computers and Internet up and running, and does centralized ordering of books for all four libraries.

“The state of Florida this year is about to put $27 million into our libraries,” said Collum, of all the public libraries statewide.

Numerous adult programs are also offered at the Three Rivers libraries, and Collum said more children’s programs are coming soon. One of them going on now is the Summer Reading Program called “Fizz, Boom, Read”, which Collum said is science-based. All the kids who participate in the program will be receiving a colorful green T-shirt with the Fizz, Boom Read logo, compliments of Drummond Community Bank in Mayo.

“We do appreciate that,” said Collum.
