Morning Update, Tuesday, June 17

Good morning. Here's a look at what's happening today. 

Weather:

A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after noon. Mostly sunny, with a high near 93. Light east wind increasing to around five mph in the afternoon. Tuesday night calls for a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before midnight. Partly cloudy, with a low around 69. East wind around five mph becoming light southeast around midnight. 

Best bets for today:

Pre-school story time (10 a.m.), book club for ages 7-10 (3 p.m.), tween book club for ages 11-14 (3 p.m.) at the Live Oak Library.

Statue of Liberty arrives

On this day in 1885, the dismantled State of Liberty, a gift of friendship from the people of France to the people of America, arrives in New York Harbor after being shipped across the Atlantic Ocean in 350 individual pieces packed in more than 200 cases. The copper and iron statue, which was reassembled and dedicated the following year in a ceremony presided over by U.S. President Grover Cleveland, became known around the world as an enduring symbol of freedom and democracy.

Suwannee County

County Road 49  Possible daytime lane closures after 8:30 a.m. three miles south of  U.S. 90 for drainage improvements.

County Road 137  Work is scheduled to begin Monday (postponed from last week) on constructing a new sidewalk between U.S. 90 and Eighth Avenue in Wellborn.  Daytime lane closures should be expected.

Irvin Avenue (State Road 51)  Daytime lane closures after 8:30 a.m. between Evergreen Avenue Southwest to Walker Avenue (just south of the roundabout) for constructing a new sidewalk.

Nobles Ferry Road (County Road 249)  Possible daytime lane closures from County Road 795 to Lime Avenue for constructing a new sidewalk.

U.S. 129  Daytime lane closures Monday through Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. between Branford and Live Oak for shoulder repairs.
