The Suwannee District Spelling Bee was held Jan. 16 at the Suwannee County School Board Office. There were six young contenders battling it out for the championship and Jack Williams from Suwannee Middle School took the District Spelling Bee Winner title by accurately spelling safari.

The contest didn’t last too long as the young spellers were eliminated leaving the last two, Marissa Carpenter representing BHS and Williams of SMS. Carpenter’s word that eliminated her was mosque. The other contenders were: Herman Gunter of Westwood Christian School, Harley Allen of Suwannee Intermediate School, Clayton Hampton of Branford Elementary School and Briana Hofer of Melody Christian Academy.

Williams will compete in the regional spelling bee on Feb. 15 at the Jacksonville Main Public Library.
