Hamilton: One dead, 2 injured in shooting, suspect arrested in Ga.

Jasper — A shooting incident early Sunday morning left one man dead and two others with minor injuries, according to Hamilton County Sheriff Harrell Reid. The suspect shooter, Daphedron Lamar Allen, 34, Jasper, was later arrested by the Lowndes County, Ga. Sheriff’s Office around noon on Sunday, May 18, without incident at a motel in Lake Park, Ga.

According to Reid, Allen had been involved in an altercation earlier on Saturday and shortly after midnight he arrived at a residence at 106 8th Ave. in Jasper. According to witnesses at the scene, there were people talking outside the residence when gunfire erupted from the bushes across the street from the residence. HCSO and Jasper Police Department were dispatched to the scene.

Reid said Frank Carl Jones III (approx. age 37) was sitting on the front porch of the residence when the gunfire started and took a fatal bullet, dying at the scene. Two other men, David Washington and Louis Ash were also injured. Washington was shot in the calf and Ash was nicked by a bullet. They were both attended to by EMS and released.

Allen fled the scene and based on information received during an investigation by HCSO, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and Third Judicial Circuit State Attorney’s Office, a warrant was issued for Allen’s arrest for the offense of second degree murder.

It was learned that Allen may have been dropped off at a Lake Park motel, and when authorities arrived they observed Allen in the motel parking lot. He was arrested without incident and booked into the Lowndes County Jail on charges of second degree murder (Fla.) and fugitive from justice (Ga.) on $500,000 bond. He was to appear Monday morning in Magistrate Court for an arraignment hearing where his extradition back to Florida would be considered, according to Lowndes County Sheriff Chris Prine.

The investigation is ongoing and additional arrests may be possible, according to authorities. Anyone with information about this incident should contact HCSO at 386-792-1001 or Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office at 229-671-2950. A reward of up to $3,000 is being offered for any information that can help authorities find the weapon used in the shooting.
