Live Oak —
I was disturbed last Friday night at the lack of Suwannee High School football fans who showed up for the Columbia game. The players and coaches need our support regardless of the team's record.
I always look forward to "Christmas on the Square" which is December 1st this year. The people of Live Oak are treated to some good booths, food, and entertainment. Kudos to those who organize this event!
This is in response to last week's RNR, "NO" we do not need a red light on Highway 51 at the new cut-through road.
I'm white, married, have children and own a small business in Live Oak. I've lived here for 25 years. Guess what? I voted for Obama. The general assumption read on Facebook and heard around this area implies that only lazy, greedy people vote for Obama. In fact, I and the democrat friends I know vote for Obama because we're concerned about the rising power of corporations in this country; we want to preserve wildlife and wild areas; and we care about children born into poverty. I won't stereotype you as a money-grubbing republican if you don't stereotype me as lazy.
To the person complaining about polling locations at churches. I also felt uncomfortable, so I now vote absentee. Just an idea.
We approach the holiday season which is a time for some folks to over commit themselves to way too many happenings and as a result suffer from holiday fatigue. Let's all remember the reasons for the season and give thanks while relaxing. Happy Holidays!
The people who work in the Suwannee River Regional Library are extremely helpful and friendly. For the size of Live Oak, we are truly blessed to have a library of this type. Check out their books today!
I think the idea of the educators of Suwannee County getting a week off at Thanksgiving is a great one. The union and administration agreeing to this on the calendar gives students and staff alike a well deserved vacation.
The Highway 51 trash collection site which is just south of where SR51 and 129th Road intersect is the topic of this. There is always trash on the ground there and outside the gate. Maybe if the dumpsters were not so far away from the entrance. The one close to US 90 west and higway 49 is cleaner and more customer friendly.

What exactly is going on in the County's lawsuit with Suwannee Landing? I read about a meeting but have seen nothing reported in the Democrat. Also, what's happening regarding the fiasco with the contractor's bond?
We published an article in the Oct. 5 Suwannee Democrat titled “Suwannee Landing lawsuit to go to trial”. You can read the article on our website, suwanneedemocrat.com, by searching for the title. - Editor
I just read your Rant & Rave about somebody complaining about five Suwannee County polling places being in Christian churches. If this person has a problem where the polling places are, I suggest they do early voting and an absentee vote. No one is forcing them to go into a church to vote. If he has a problem with it, I suggest he votes early. He doesn’t have to the polling polls if he don’t like it. I think the one person that is raising all these complaints should go where he wants. He should be thankful that he’s in a country that allows him to vote.
