Rant & Rave - Nov. 16, 2012

Live Oak — I was disturbed last Friday night at the lack of Suwannee High School football fans who showed up for the Columbia game. The players and coaches need our support regardless of the team's record.

I always look forward to "Christmas on the Square" which is December 1st this year. The people of Live Oak are treated to some good booths, food, and entertainment. Kudos to those who organize this event!

This is in response to last week's RNR, "NO" we do not need a red light on Highway 51 at the new cut-through road.

I'm white, married, have children and own a small business in Live Oak. I've lived here for 25 years. Guess what? I voted for Obama. The general assumption read on Facebook and heard around this area implies that only lazy, greedy people vote for Obama. In fact, I and the democrat friends I know vote for Obama because we're concerned about the rising power of corporations in this country; we want to preserve wildlife and wild areas; and we care about children born into poverty. I won't stereotype you as a money-grubbing republican if you don't stereotype me as lazy.

To the person complaining about polling locations at churches. I also felt uncomfortable, so I now vote absentee. Just an idea.

We approach the holiday season which is a time for some folks to over commit themselves to way too many happenings and as a result suffer from holiday fatigue. Let's all remember the reasons for the season and give thanks while relaxing. Happy Holidays!

The people who work in the Suwannee River Regional Library are extremely helpful and friendly. For the size of Live Oak, we are truly blessed to have a library of this type. Check out their books today!
