Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly after 1 p.m. Partly sunny, with a high near 90. Light south wind becoming west 5 to 8 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. Tuesday night calls for showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly before 9 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 70. West wind around 5 mph becoming light southwest in the evening. Chance of rain is 60 percent.

Senate passes landmark auto safety bill

On this day in 1966, the United States Senate votes 76-0 for the passage of what will become the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act. Signed into law by PresidentLyndon B. Johnson the following September, the act created the nation's first mandatory federal safety standards for motor vehicles.

LAFAYETTE COUNTY

 State Road 51   Daytime lane closures from Mayo to the Taylor County line to repair ditches. 

SUWANNEE COUNTY:

County Road 49  Possible daytime lane closures after 8:30 a.m. three miles south of  U.S. 90 for drainage improvements.

County Road 137  Daytime lane closures after 8:30 a.m. between U.S. 90 and Eighth Avenue in Wellborn for building a new sidewalk.

Irvin Avenue (State Road 51)  Daytime lane closures after 8:30 a.m. between Evergreen Avenue Southwest to Walker Avenue (just south of the roundabout) for constructing a new sidewalk.
