Mayo — From the Lafayette County Sheriff's Office

On Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2013, approximately 5:09 p.m., a family member of Lake City resident William (69) and Lynda (60) Ward called into the Lafayette Sheriff’s Office and reported the two missing. The caller advised that the couple were last seen the morning of the 25th and they were to travel to their river home in Lafayette County and return that same afternoon. Several attempts to contact the couple by friends and family members have proven unsuccessful.

The Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office responded to the river home in an attempt to make contact with the couple, but they were not located. The couple’s vehicle was located at the river property and the property appears to be secure. Currently, the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office is treating this as a missing person’s case, but the investigation is ongoing.

Multiple agencies from surrounding counties are assisting in the investigation and search efforts include Columbia County Sheriff’s Office, Duval County Sheriff’s Office, Gilchrist County Sheriff’s Office, Suwannee County Sheriff’s Office, Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, and Mayo Correctional Institution.

If anyone has information on the whereabouts of William and Lynda Ward, they are urged to contact the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office at (386) 294-1301.
